'Safer' Mobile Hardware Is Coming, but Real Security Starts with Sound Policies
'Safer' Mobile Hardware Is Coming, but Real Security Starts with Sound Policies
Mobile Security Policies
A recent survey found that 80 percent of IT managers feel employees are responsible for most of the danger associated with mobile devices, but 20 percent don't have effective security policies in place and 60 percent don't enforce what they have. There are a range of solutions, but they should begin with common-sense policies. Recent headlines about stolen or lost laptops and the critical data they contain illustrates the urgency of this issue. Create a policy encompassing laptop use and data protection. And then remember that the policy will be ignored if not enforced. One approach is an automatic check of laptops to ensure antivirus software is up to date and data is encrypted. Vendors are rushing to meet need with laptops and other devices with security built-in.
