| The Major Projects / Publicworks team is staffed with confident client-facing individuals responsible for the implementation of all major project work within the existing Barclays Capital premises worldwide and for new locations Barclays Capital is investing in. The team is involved in the planning and delivery of large-scale projects that includes the fit-out and/or refurbishment of front office Trading floors, back office support space, client and non client facing meeting facilities, communication rooms and Data Centers. Projects range from partial floor spaces to entire buildings and is inclusive of the migration of the business to the new site or building. The team is merged with Technology and thus delivers the working environment and the technology to support the end user. | |
| Main Job Function | |
| The senior Technology projects manager will report directly into the Global co-head of Major Projects/Public works (based in New York) and will predominantly be responsible for supporting regional Projects initiatives within the Americas. In addition to the regional responsibility the role will also provide key support in the Project Management of global projects and the onward development of the team. The senior projects manager will be required to manage all technical aspects and co-ordinate all phases of the designated regional Project, including initial briefing, project approval, design, procurement, delivery and closeout. The senior project manager will need to offer a diverse style of management, and should be able to demonstrate experience with management of a range of technology disciplines. The project manager will be expected to manage a core resource pool plus additional contract staff as the portfolio grows. Whilst the project manager should be an expert technologist it is expected that the project manager also have construction management skills. In addition to the core project management role, there is a global initiative to continue driving best practices within the group. This will be done by reviews of our procedures, processes, standards, products and service providers. | Main Duties and Responsibilities | |
| Manage the delivery of the Bank’s Major project portfolio. This includes all office relocations and office expansions and data centre build outs. Main duties include:- • Co-ordination and leadership of large projects in the region by managing a resource pool of contract and permenant staff • Manage technically and logistically challenging business critical projects, reporting to the Global Co-Head of Major Projects/Public Works • Actively promote the team's abilities / missions and ensure early involvement in new global initiatives / projects • Ensure all projects achieve the expected high standards for Production BAU acceptance • A focal point for project communications; Complement and collaborate with existing Project teams to ensure the successful delivery of projects into Production • Work with construction project managers to successfully delivery the portfolio of work on time and to budget • Liaise with business heads to understand project requirements and to advise on progress and issues • Manage project budget spends and track capital and P&L views • Identify and price risk for projects ensuring early communication of project issues and early release of contingency funds | |

| • Thorough understanding of project management principles, processes and exposure to at least one major project management methodology • Experience in managing small delivery-focused teams in a dynamic environment • Experience in managing a portfolio of complex projects leveraging multiple resources from teams in a matrix reporting mode • Good working knowledge of project financials including capital deprecation and P&L views | |

| Thorough understanding of at least one of the following:- • Data centre Operations (Productionising systems); • Applications development • Applications or Infrastructure architecture • Infrastructure deployment or support (LAN, WAN, desktop etc.) • Database management / design Certified project manager in one of the industry accepted accreditations; PMI, Prince etc. | |
| Skills / Aptitude Required | |
| Strong leader capable of managing a matrix reporting team • Confident in establishing project risk and issues and communicating to the business • Experienced at managing a global portfolio with limited resources and budget • Team player who can work with CRES to deliver a single project goal • 7-10 years experience as a project portfolio manager | |
| Skills / Aptitude Preferred | |
| • 10-13 years experience as a project portfolio manager • Director of project portfolio with budget funds in excess of £50m capital |
