Security, Management Create the Need, but Should Middleware Be Built-In?

Security, Management Create the Need, but Should Middleware Be Built-In?

In the past, mobile middleware mostly tackled disparity in speeds between enterprise and wireless networks. Now, it's used to support VPNs and to enable IT departments to exert tighter policy enforcement. Some observers contend that mobility should be built into enterprise applications that can run without the middle layer, which presumably adds complexity and expense. But the sheer number of devices and networks may make mobile middleware necessary. Undeniably, the mobile software space is complex. In addition to mobile middleware and infrastructure software, consultancy IDC indentifies mobile device management, mobile and wireless security software, remote control software and remote access services, to name a few.
