Google's GDrive 'Oops'

The search giant's plans to provide an "infinite storage" solution were inadvertently exposed to the masses recently when an observant reader spotted notes on the subject in a PowerPoint presentation prepared for an analyst day at Google. The buzz that has ensued since the reader posted the news in his blog has so far centered around the privacy implications of turning one's information over to a company that has garned much of the U.S. Department of Justice's attention of late, what with its refusal to comply with the DoJ's subpoena and its cooperation with the Chinese government in blocking "restricted" Internet addresses. Some, however, point out that the idea is not a bad one: Storing info on a central server could prove handy on those days when you mistakenly leave the house without your key drive. |
