Utility Computing Adopters Indicate Long-Term Changes in IT Procurement, Says the 451 Group
Tekrati: The adoption of utility computing will lead to lasting changes in IT procurement, delivery and usage, most notably automation via SOAs and the ability to better align IT with business objectives, according to the 451 Group. Adoption is currently "minimal" but will gain traction despite a number of caveats, among them security, user resistance, immaturity of management and billing technology and a shortage of developer and support resources. Early adopters and vendors appear to agree that the model includes server consolidation, virtualization and examination of metering and chargeback options.
