Moving IT Decision-Making to the Boardroom

Moving IT Decision-Making to the Boardroom

Company boards approve IT budgets all the time, but not many really pay attention to what they're approving. In an effort to avoid what one writer calls the "happy to be ignorant" attitude, more boards are organizing committees specifically for technology requests. Members include everyone from company officers to business process owners to full time IT staffers based in the departments they support. Others suggest even further specialization of committees, like one for new software, one for infrastructure improvement, one for process improvement and so on. Communication between CEOs and CIOs is also critical, and appointing former CIOs as board members may not be a bad idea, either.
