Wal-Mart revises banking bid, will withdraw CRA exemption request
Looking to gain more support for its bid to expand into banking, Wal-Mart said it will drop its request to be exempt from the Community Reinvestment Act, which requires banks to help meet the needs of lower-income customers. The retailer had said it already supports low-income residents through other services, but the withdrawn request could help Wal-Mart gain support for its entry into banking.
